Your is ready to buy a new electric vehicle, but what about the other stuff? Batteries, charging stations: that’s got to be in place as well, yeah?

EV chargers are the siblings of EVs. They need each other!

As electric vehicle (EV) adoption surges across Australia, businesses have a unique opportunity to future-proof their operations by investing in EV charging infrastructure.

From retail outlets to commercial buildings, hosting EV chargers is no longer just a sustainability gesture: it’s a strategic move that drives customer engagement and revenue.

The NSW Government is backing the roll-out of charging stations across the state.

Through the DRIVEN Program, dealerships and repairers can access rebates of up to $3,000 per charger and $21,000 per site to install EV charging infrastructure. That means lower upfront costs and a faster shift to electric mobility.

Commercial property owners can also benefit by making their buildings EV-ready.

NSW Climate and Energy Action team outlines a five-step process – from stakeholder surveys to energy assessments – to help businesses plan and implement EV charging solutions. These upgrades not only improve property value, they also attract tenants and customers who prioritise sustainability.

Hosting an EV charger can significantly boost traveller visitation. EV drivers often plan trips around charging stops, using apps and maps to locate stations. Businesses that offer charging stations become key destinations, increasing foot traffic and dwell time – especially in regional areas.

To support the rollout of chargers, the NSW Government offers a range of funding programs under its Electric Vehicle Strategy, including destination charging grants and fast charging co-investment schemes.

These initiatives help businesses cover installation costs, access technical support, and become part of a growing statewide charging network. Whether you’re a dealership, commercial property owner, or regional business, these grants make it easier to attract EV-driving customers while contributing to a cleaner transport future.

The installation process can be streamlined through partnerships with Charge Point Operators (CPOs) that, via a licensing agreement, manage set-up, maintenance, and operations with businesses providing space and access in return (businesses host the EV chargers).

With government backing and growing consumer demand, now is the ideal time for businesses to plug into the EV future.
